Fears and Monsters traces the quiet evolution of fear—from childhood imagination to adult awareness. What begins as a familiar ritual of protection, a blanket pulled tightly over the ears, unfolds into a more deliberate exposure: a refusal to remain sheltered, even in vulnerability. The work navigates the subtle shift between innocence and lucidity, where fear does not disappear but changes form. No longer hidden from, it is anticipated—almost listened for. In this space, Sven Laurent positions fear not as an obstacle, but as a presence to confront, revealing the fragile boundary between protection and readiness.

As a child, to fall asleep,
the blanket had to cover my ears,
I was afraid of thieves and monsters.
Today, I sleep with ears uncovered,
not that I’m not afraid anymore,
but I want to hear them coming.
