How do we know what we are looking at ?
With carefully composed images showing found situations, Brussels based photographer, Sven Laurent is exploring the perception of materiality, value and legitimacy in contemporary art. Constantly oscillating between abstraction and representation, Sven’s work is inviting the viewer to question his own sense of aesthetics and the way he is looking at his environment. Taken during daily walks part of a long physical rehabilitation process, these images are referring to the notion of ‘abstract landscape', transposing painterly concerns like surface, texture, and composition to intimate fragments of the urban environment.
